Faced with a truly daunting challenge and in a dangerous and unforgiving environment, Jorge set about restoring order, winning the rare Distinguished Service Order for his ‘dynamism, leadership and bravery’.

He was promoted to colonel and placed in charge of running the UK’s Iraq operation and establishing a Global Counter Terrorism team. He came to national prominence when later charged and put on trial for negligence over the death of an Iraqi civilian.

After a five month prosecution, the high court judge dismissed the charge as utterly baseless.
