Adrian Chiles
Raised in Hagley in the West Midlands, Adrian says he emerged from local schools a slightly above average student. He went on to study English Literature at the University of London where he says he was definitely a below average student.
After graduating he planned to teach English abroad but broke his leg playing football and spent nearly a year on crutches instead. For some reason he ended up on a journalism course. West Bromwich Albion's loss, we're sure.
Adrian's first job was with the Birmingham Post although he had done work experience on Business Breakfast on BBC One. His first on-air work was on the Financial World Tonight on Radio 4 and World Business Report on the World Service.
With the launch of Radio 5 Live he found himself presenting the early morning business news. When Working Lunch launched in 1994 he became the presenter and also has a sports show on Radio 5 Live every Saturday.
He then took the job of presenting BBC2's popular business daytime show Working Lunch.
He spent 13 years presenting the daily business news programme Working Lunch (BBC Two) and has written and presented several one-off documentaries and documentary series for the BBC including Royal Millions, a look at the royal family’s finance, as well as special reports on banking for Panorama and documentaries about the millennium bug and European food policy.
During 2004 Adrian presented a programme about Asian Millionaires (BBC Two), Working in the Dark (BBC One), the second series of So What Do You Do All Day (BBC Two), It Beats Working (BBC One), a documentary on Royal Millions (BBC One), and What Ron Said (BBC One).
As a radio presenter Adrian has worked on Financial World Tonight (BBC Radio 4), Wake up to Money (BBC Radio 5 Live), and 6-0-6 (BBC Radio 5 Live). Adrian’s own radio show Chiles on Saturday (BBC Radio 5 Live) won a Sony Radio Academy Gold Award in 2002.
Adrian was the originating host of The One Show (BBC One) from August 2006 to April 2010, Match Of The Day 2 (BBC One and Two) and The Apprentice: You’re Fired (BBC Two). He has also appeared as a guest host on Have I Got News For You. He hosted Daybreak with his former The One Show co-host, Christine Bleakley and now presents sport on ITV including the Champions League.
